Destiny 2 frame rate could have hit 60fps on dedicated server

The Destiny 2 frame rate has been confirmed to hit 30fps across all platforms, but Glenn Fiedler, a former Lead Network Programmer at Sony, believes the sci-shooter could have hit 60fps.

Fiedler, who also enjoyed stints as a Multiplayer Lead at Pandemic Studios, said in a now-deleted Tweet that the fact Destiny 2 would have been able to hit the silky-smooth frame rate had the shared-world shooter utilised dedicated servers, as opposed to going down the peer-to-peer route.

Bungie had previously touched on the subject of Destiny 2’s performance, suggesting that the reason it could not hit the 60fps mark is due to the fact the hardware, notably PS4 Pro, lacks the horsepower to handle such a requirement. Obviously, Fiedler’s comments go against the grain here, and as an individual with a lot of knowledge on the subject, it’s indeed possible Bungie could have got the game up and running on dedicated servers to hit the 60fps milestone.

Destiny 2 is scheduled for a worldwide release on PS4, PC, and Xbox One on September 8, 2017. The sequel picks up around a year after the events of Rise of Iron, and sees the Tower attacked by a Cabal unit known as The Red Legion, forcing Guardians on the retreat. As a result of the assault, all of the player’s weapons and equipment will not be transferable over to the game, although you’ll still be able to carry over any cosmetic touches you’ve made to your character(s).

Bungie has confirmed that Destiny 2 will not feature the much-loathed Grimoire Cards from the original game, and as made a number of changes to the sequel, such as revamping the multiplayer component and offering a larger open-world ripe with side quests (known here as Adventures) to tackle.
