Dark Cloud 3 possibility all up to Sony according to Level-5

If you’re an old fart, you might remember an action-RPG game by the name of Dark Cloud that got released on the PlayStation 2 way back in 2001. There was a sequel aptly titled Dark Cloud 2 that was released back in 2003, but the franchise has remained dormant after that. Is there a chance for us to see Dark Cloud 3 given Sony’s on a recent revival trip?

Speaking to Polygon at gamescom, Level-5 CEO Akihiro Hino talked on the possibility of seeing Dark Cloud 3, and how the ball is in Sony’s court now.

There has been a lot of requests and voices to create a Dark Cloud 3 or some form of Dark Cloud. That IP is co-owned or managed by Sony Computer Entertainment, so it’s not something that we can do or act upon on our own.

Hino also added that Level-5 and Sony had entered "negotiations" about Dark Cloud in the past before, but he’s not sure if that’s happening now.

In case you didn’t know, Level-5 was the studio behind Dark Cloud. This was way back before the studio struck gold with the Professor Layton series and of course, the excellent Ni no Kuni. While we might not see Dark Cloud 3 anytime soon, at the very least, we have Ni no Kuni II to look forward to when it his the PS4 early 2018.
