CD Projekt RED has clarified a few details about the Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition, chiefly that the boxed PS5 version of the game will only include the base experience on disc. As such, you’ll have to download the Phantom Liberty expansion separately.
Speaking with VGC, a spokesperson for the company had the following to say:
The reason for the difference in how the Phantom Liberty is included in the Ultimate Edition is due to technical requirements specific to each platform.
After a lot of fans took to social media to air their frustrations at the decision, John Linneman of Digital Foundry weighed in with a bit more clarify on the topic.
“I’ve been told this is a problem on the Sony side with how DLC plugs into games.” Meanwhile, Twitter account Does It Play added, “Sony does allow devs to compile dlc disc builds as we have other examples,” prompting Linneman to add: “Yes and I suspect that’s what’s going on here. They didn’t want to make a separate build just for the disc.”
Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition launches for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S on December 5, 2023.
