Cyberpunk 2077 save data can corrupt once it reaches 8MB in size or higher due to a high amount of items in your inventory or a large number of crafting materials, players have found, adding to an already hectic week for the game.

A post on Reddit first highlighted the issue, saying that anyone using crafting to make money should avoid doing so as your save file can easily reach this 8 MB threshold. But, a post on the GoG Support Centre seemingly confirms this issue does exist as it states:

“Unfortunately the save is damaged and can’t be recovered.
Please use an older save file to continue playing and try to keep a lower amount of items and crafting materials.
If you have used the item duplication glitch, please load a save file not affected by it.
The save file size limit might be increased in one of the future patches, but the corrupted files will remain that way.”

The idea of this limit being increased is nice, but the issue is present in the game right now. Although all the reports we have seen about this save file corruption come from Steam or PC players, so we can’t confirm if this issue is present on PS4 and PS5 right now, but once we can, we will be sure to update you.

CD Projekt Red has had a tumultuous week, with Sony offering refunds on Cyberpunk 2077 and having Cyberpunk 2077 pulled from the PlayStation Store due to its rough technical state. If you want to see what we thought of Cyberpunk 2077, you can take a look at our thorough review here.

Cyberpunk 2077 is available now on PS4 and will release for PS5 in 2021.
