Nearly four years after its disastrous launch, Cyberpunk 2077 has reached 30 million copies sold, developer CD Projekt RED announced.
Even before Cyberpunk 2077 had launched, 8 million players were ready to jump in just on pre-orders. Another 5 million joined in the game’s first week, accounting for the 13 million copies sold just within the game’s first 10 days.
After that however, things grinded to a halt as gamers realized just how broken Cyberpunk 2077 was, and that CD Projekt RED had released a wholly unfinished game.
But as CD Projekt RED kept fixing it, little by little, sales also rose. Almost three years after it launched, it hit 25 million copies. Just over a year from that milestone, it’s hit this latest 30 million copies sold milestone.
It’s safe to say that Cyberpunk 2077 has officially entered the echelon of the games industry’s best comeback stories, alongside No Man’s Sky, Final Fantasy XIV, and Rainbow Six Siege.
All four of those titles, including Cyberpunk, launched in an absolutely abysmal state. Now, they’re not only still popular, but more successful than ever.
It perfectly sets the stage for the coming Cyberpunk sequel, and CDPR’s next game, The Witcher 4, which is reportedly in full-scale production.
