How to beat the bosses

If you’re having troubles getting through the boss fights, read on and find out how to get through each one of them!

Crash Bandicoot boss battles

The first game contains six boss battles. Despite not really receiving any info from the game on how to defeat these, they aren’t that hard to get through.

  • Papu Papu

Being the first boss in the game and without exactly getting any information on how to get through this, you’d be surprised how easy it is and how fast you can defeat Papu Papu.

His move is simple: he slams down his stick and swirls it around the room. To defeat him, simply jump on his back when he’s swirling around his stick.

  • Ripper Roo

To beat this insane kangaroo, you have to jump onto the TNT crates so they become active as they float in between the platforms. Ripper Roo has three jumping patterns that change each time you bring his health down. If you want to be safe and check out his pattern first, you’re completely safe on the far left or far right corner of the grid of platforms as these will not be used by him. Once you see his pattern, jump on one of the TNT crates so they become active as they float in between the platforms. If they explode once Ripper Roo is near them, he’ll lose a part of his health. Do this three times and celebrate your victory.

  • Koala Kong

To defeat Koala Kong you will have to use his own attack against him. From the other side of the lava, he will be throwing rocks at you which you can either spin away or dodge. While throwing these rocks, some TNT crates will pop onto your side, so make sure you avoid these.

Koala Kong will pick up a big rock and you will see him tip toe sideways with it before throwing it. This rock is the rock that you’ll have to spin back. Let him throw it, dodge it and it’ll settle on the ground near you. Run behind it and spin it towards him. Repeat this four times to defeat him.

  • Pinstripe Potoroo

Coming face to face with Pinstripe, you’ll quickly have to hide behind one of the chairs in this scene. Pinstripe Potoroo will be firing his gun around, but will run from the left side all the way to the right, in front of the table that is flipped over. When he’s running to the right, run in and spin him. After three turns, you will have to hide until you see him becoming annoyed as his gun seems to be stuck and won’t fire for a moment. Run in and spin. After another three turns you’ve won the battle.

  • Dr. Nitrus Brio

Brio will be throwing chemicals at you. At first he’ll throw some purple chemicals, which you have to avoid at all cost. Next, he’ll throw green chemicals. These will land on the floor and will create blobs, who’ll come after you by jumping around. Jump onto the blobs and they will cause Brio to take damage. After six hits, he will drink his chemicals and he will turn into what looks like a Brio-Hulk. When his Hulk self slams his arms on the floor, some blocks will fall down. Jump onto the block that lays on the floor and as he makes his way towards you, just jump onto his head. After three jumps, he will fall out of the window behind him.

  • Dr. Neo Cortex

The last boss in the game, Cortex, only has one attack but increases his speed. He will shoot purple and green orbs. Avoid the purple orbs at all cost and when he shoots a green orb at you, spin it back. The green orbs will cause Cortex to take damage. After taking damage five times, Cortex will fall down and you have finished the game.

crash bandicoot tips on beating bosses

Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back boss battles

Number two in the trilogy contains five boss battles, which means it’s one less battle than the original game. Some new enemies pop up as well as some old ones. Take a look on how we work our way through defeating them.

  • Ripper Roo

Just like in the first game, Ripper Roo seems to be in love with TNT. This time, he’ll pogo around the platform and places TNT into the floor. There’ll be a gap in between the TNT somewhere, stand over there and you’ll be safe. The TNT won’t cause any damage to Ripper Roo and only makes him enjoy the party more, which causes him to decide on bringing nitro in the next time instead. Again, make your way to the gap in the nitro and you’ll be safe. After Ripper Roo jumps to explode the nitro, he’ll be knocked out for a moment on the floor. Quickly run in and use your spin against him. Ripper Roo changes his pattern of TNT and nitro up to three times. Repeat the spin attack each time when he’s knocked out and you have defeated Ripper Roo.

  • The Komodo Brothers

As well as Ripper Roo, taking down these brothers isn’t too difficult and only takes three turns. The brother in the middle, Komodo Moe, will spin his brother, Komodo Joe around the room very fast. In the meantime, Moe will be throwing his swords around the room. Avoid both brothers’ attacks and once Komodo Joe is sitting on the floor, dizzy from spinning, spin against him and he’ll be flung into his brother. After three times, the brothers are defeated.

  • Tiny Tiger

The setup is quite alike the fight against Ripper Roo in the first game; a room with a 3×3 grid of platforms. Jump around avoiding Tiny as he tries to jump onto you. After a while, some platforms will flicker red and fall down. You’ll have to make your way across these without falling down yourself but luring in Tiny so he falls down with the platforms. As the previous two boss fights, after three turns, Tiny Tiger will be defeated.

  • Dr. N. Gin

Defeating N. Gin can seem tricky, but it’s not as bad as you’d think; you have three platforms from which you can throw wumpa fruit at his machine. Once he opens up parts of his machine (shown by a yellow opening), try to hit it with the fruit as it’ll cause that part to be damaged.

N. Gin works in three phases;

1. In the first phase he’ll be firing lasers up, down and across the platforms, which should be easy to avoid.

2. He’ll be firing missiles from his shoulder pads. They will fly from the top of your screen onto the platforms, showing a shadow, allowing you to avoid them. After this he will fire another missile, which will lock onto you and follow you. Again, avoid this and you’ll be fine.

3. N.Gin drops down for a moment, to come back up with a big laser that will make the platform that is blasted with this shot drop down for a moment. The laser needs charging before he actually can shoot it, so while he’s charging, throw some fruit to hit it. Make sure not to stand in front of it too long and quickly get to a safe spot in time. After a few hits it should break down and victory shall be yours.

  • Dr. Neo Cortex

The evil Dr. Cortex is back with a vengeance as the last boss, this time taking things into space.
Despite it being the last boss, you’d be surprised how easy it is to defeat Cortex. He doesn’t even attack you at all. The only thing you have to do is fly through the rings and avoid the obstacles and get close to Cortex. Once you’re close enough, use your spin to hit him that’s it. Do this a total of three times and you have worked your way through the second game of the series!

Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped boss battles

The last game of the trilogy contains five bosses. Just alike in Cortex Strikes Back, some bosses return and some are new. Read on to find out how to defeat these evil bastards.

Tiny Tiger
As the first boss, Tiny Tiger is shown in a classic arena with gates in front of you, watched by Cortex and a crowd of evil scientists. Tiny will jump around the arena trying to kill you. After a few jumps, he’ll slam his trident into the floor, jammed and stuck as he tries to pull it out. Run up to him and use your spin attack. After hitting him, he’ll jump out of the arena and the gates will open up, unleashing a pride of lions that will run across, eating you if you’re in their way. Avoid being killed by running around and using your spin. Repeat this three times and Tiny will perish.

Dingodile
One of the new bosses in the series is Dingodile; a new accomplice of Cortex, equipped with a flamethrower. There’s three walls of ice holding you back from attacking him as he fires off fireballs into the air. Look on the ground as you can see the shadows which will help you avoid them. After this he will fire off blasts which break through the ice walls, allowing you to run in after three blasts and bringing him down with a spin. The second and third phase are fairly similar, except the fireballs in the second phase will land in random spots whereas in the third phase they’re fired in pairs.

If you want a quick tip; you can use the slide and jump combination to get over the walls instantly and spin against him. Slide and jump out of the circle again so you don’t get killed yourself. You can use this for all three phases.

Dr. N. Tropy
Another new addition to the Cortex crew is Dr. N. Tropy, who uses electric beams to try and kill you. He’ll be standing on the other side of a large drop and thus is unreachable at first.
He’ll generate platforms in front of you, giving you more moving space. After this, he’ll attack you with the beams, which you can avoid easily by jumping over them. He’ll also fire off some missiles. After his attacks, he’ll remove some of the platforms and a few more will appear, generating a path for you to jump across and getting to the Dr. Reach the other side and spin the Dr. and he will teleport to the other platform. Repeat this two more times and the Dr. will harm you no more.

Dr. N. Gin
Cortex’ companion, Dr. N. Gin is back again, this time with another robot, except with upgrades! This time around, Crash won’t be taking the heft in hands but it’s Coco’s turn to defeat someone.

As always, Dr. N. Gin works in phases. This time, it’s two phases:

1. Sees him firing various weapons at you. If needed you can shoot the rockets coming towards you, to avoid your ship being damaged. As well as in the previous game, you have to fire at the yellow parts that have opened up on the robot, as well as at his machine gun hands.

2. His robot will transform into more of a flying craft rather than a full size robot. Besides that, the phase is pretty much the same; just fire at the yellow points that have opened up and you’ll defeat him in no time.

Dr. Neo Cortex
While all the other bosses seem to up their game a little bit with each new appearance as a boss (e.g. N. Gin’s upgrades), Cortex seems to lack the ability to improve. This time around he’s bringing – you guessed it – the same gun with the same purple bolts.

The only thing you’ll have to do in this battle is avoid Aku Aku and Uka Uka’s battle; meaning either the laser in between them or their spinning battle. While it may look difficult at first, it’s just another pattern you’ll recognise quite fast, making it an easy bossfight again.

After a while, you’ll see Cortex throw some mines across the room. Avoid them and wait for them to explode and Cortex will become confused for a moment. Make your way to him and spin against him a few times, so he falls into the hole in the center of the room. Repeat this for a total of three turns and pop the champagne as you have now completed the full N-Sane Trilogy.

Congratulations!
