Craig Mazin Says There’s No Plans For The Last Of Us Prequel Or Spinoff Show

The Last of Us HBO showrunner Craig Mazin has revealed that he and Neil Druckmann have no plans for a spinoff or prequel show based on Naughty Dog’s post-apocalyptic franchise.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Mazin revealed that he’s not going past the video games, stating that he has no intention to pull a Game of Thrones, in which that particular series has branched off into multiple spinoff projects.

I am not going to go past the game. I’ll just say that flat out. So if people are thinking, ‘Oh, these guys are planning the old cash grab thing.’ I’m basically setting a decade of my rapidly dwindling life on fire to tell this story. The show is so hard to make. It has to have an end. So I’m not going to go past.

Who knows, there might be a Dunk and Egg The Last of Us show that happens that somebody does. But for me, the only question is: Is it going to be one more season or will it require two more? If this can happen all in one more season, great. If we feel like it makes sense to break it into two, then we will do that.

Speaking in the same interview, Mazin addressed criticism that Bella Ramsey looks too young to portray Ellie in season two of The Last of Us, saying that while he does understand it to a degree, he’s more interested in ‘emotional maturity.’
