Famed composer Nobuo Uematsu will not return to work on the music for the remake of Final Fantasy VII.
The man who composed the score of the original Final Fantasy VII and its film sequel Advent Children was asked about his involvement in an interview with French site Jeuxvideo and replied, “Not at all.”
The news may come as a disappointment to fans. Uematsu’s musical scores of past Final Fantasy and JRPG titles are much beloved and are among the best in gaming.
A likely route Square Enix will take is simply rearranging the original Final Fantasy VII score, similar to what was done with the Final Fantas X|X-2 HD Remaster.
The Final Fantasy VII remake for the PlayStation 4 was announced at Sony’s E3 2015 PlayStation press conference and is set to bring “dramatic changes” to the combat. Kingdom Hearts series director Tetsuya Nomura, who also created FFVII’s original character designs, will be directing the project.
