Capcom Dismisses Claims Of Legal Issues With Bruce Lee Estate Over Street Fighter’s Fei Long

Street Fighter 6 director Takayuki Nakayama has said that there are no legal issues regarding the appearance of Fei Long in future entries in the venerable fighting game franchise.

The comments come after Daniel Lindholm, the composer for Street Fighter 5, suggested that Fei Long may not appear in Street Fighter anymore due to the Bruce Lee estate — the character is heavily inspired by the martial arts legend, in case you didn’t know — requiring any depictions of Lee to be “honourable” or nothing at all.

While Lindholm later said that he didn’t have any insight into the topic, and the Bruce Lee Twitter denied the claims outright, Fei Long was conspicuously absent from Street Fighter 5 all the same, leaving many to question his future in the series.

However, we at least know that there are no legal issue anymore regarding Fei Long. Here’s what Nakayama-san said during a chat with Eurogamer:

That whole Bruce Lee estate information they mentioned turned out to not be real. I can’t say whether he’s coming or not, but there are definitely no legal issues.

Street Fighter 6 is currently in development for PS5, PS4, PC, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One, with the game scheduled to launch in 2023.
