New data published by Circana has revealed that Call of Duty Black Ops 6 was the best-selling video game in the US for 2024.
While that’s a pretty big accomplishment in itself, it’s worth noting that Black Ops 6 is the franchise’s 16th successive annual number one, proving that despite its ups and downs, the Call of Duty series remains as a popular as ever.
Call of Duty remains the best-selling video game franchise in US full game dollar sales for a record 16th consecutive year.

Circana also revealed that spending on video games in the US was down 1.1% in 2024 compared to the previous year. This was attributed largely to a 25% drop in spending on gaming hardware, although sales for content (software, DLC, and subscriptions) spiked by 2% while accessories were up by 6%.
Writing on BlueSky, Circana’s Mat Piscatella commented:
No question video game hardware had a rough one. But it was expected with Switch being in market for so long and both PS5/XBS past their selling peaks. Total 2024 hardware spend of $4.9B is still significantly higher than the $3.9B seen in 2019. Shrug.
