Retro platforming hero Bubsy the Bobcat is coming to PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X/S in the form of the Bubsy In: The Purrfect Collection courtesy of Limited Run Games and Atari.
Due out in 2025, Bubsy In: The Purrfect Bobcat is a celebration of the early 90s platforming classics, and is a ‘playable history’ that features multiple games, artefacts, and interviews spanning Busboy’s illustrious history. Furthermore, all the titles included in the bundle have been given a new lease of life using Limited Run Games’ Carbon Engine.
Created internally at Limited Run Games, the Carbon Engine is a development tool that allows legacy content to be ported to modern platforms. It uses emulation as a base, on top of which the Carbon Engine builds features like UI, rendering, audio, data management, controller inputs, and console-specific SDK features like trophies. It allows Limited Run to put out highly accurate, emulation-based ports of classic games for modern hardware. Old, well-loved releases can find a second wind on all-new hardware using the Carbon Engine. It is a core component of Limited Run’s vision for a world that is Forever Physical.
The project is helmed by Audi Sorlie, an expert on all things Bubsy in addition to being an author and producer, ensuring that Limited Run Games and Atari’s collection will serve as the “ultimate retrospective celebration” of the iconic furry franchise.
