On Wednesday, former Bend Studio creative director John Garvin expressed his belief as to why Days Gone wasn’t granted the sort of overwhelmingly-positive reception he seemed to think it deserved.
Garvin blamed the poor reception on “woke reviewers” who both “couldn’t be bothered” to play Days Gone, and “who couldn’t handle a gruff white biker looking at his date’s ass.”
On top of that, Garvin blamed the technical issues the game faced at launch, which he expressed in a separate tweet as something he was not “responsible for,” throwing his former team under the bus, as it were.
The next day, Bend Studio has released a statement to definitively say it “does not” share Garvin’s sentiments, and that Garvin’s comments do not reflect how the studio feels about Days Gone.
And rather than putting down its own developers, thanked those who worked tirelessly on Days Gone.
“We are aware of the comments made by our previous creative director on Days Gone regarding his personal view on the critical reception of our intellectual property.” the studio wrote.
“Bend Studio does not share his sentiment, nor does it reflect the views of our team. Our studio is immensely proud of the work we accomplished on Days Gone and are thankful to every developer who poured their heart and soul into it.”
