Battlefield 2042 On PS4 Will Feature Lower Map Size And 64 Player Cap

The PS4 and Xbox One versions of Battlefield 2042 will feature 64 players instead of the 128 seen in the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S editions of the shooter, publisher EA has confirmed.

In addition, the company announced that the last-generation versions of Battlefield 2042 will have reduced map sizes in comparison to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S releases.

“Xbox One and PlayStation®4 are capped at 64 players and reduced map sizes,” said EA, noting this to “still ensure epic battles” for those platforms. Still, for 128 players and fully fleshed out maps, the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions are necessary.

Battlefield 2042 was fully unveiled today by EA in a livestream event, confirming an October 22 release for PS5, PS4, PC, Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One.

The game will eschew a traditional single-player campaign in favour of multiplayer modes, although a narrative is still going to be part of the equation.
