Avalanche Studios Job Listings Reveal Development Of Multiplayer Live Service Game Using Unreal Engine

Avalanche Studios, the developer behind the Just Cause franchise, has revealed in a new series of job listings that the company is developing a live service multiplayer game powered by Unreal Engine.

The job vacancies are for Gameplay Systems Programer and Technical Director, which reveals that it is currently in the pre-production stages of the new game, which is not going to use Avalanche’s proprietary Apex Engine, instead opting for Epic’s tech. You can read the blurb for the Gameplay Systems Programme below.

We’re seeking an experienced Gameplay Systems Programmer to join our team in Stockholm and play a central role in ensuring that the features and content we create are ready for large-scale multiplayer environments and fine-tuning by our design team. Your work will form the backbone of everything from weapon damage and mission scripting to sophisticated AI and player behavior, directly influencing every moment of gameplay.

Meanwhile, the Technical Director reveals that the candidate will “be responsible for defining the technical architecture, establishing a long-term engineering roadmap, and making sure the team has the tools and systems required to bring “this ground-breaking experience” to a launch-fit build.

Speaking in November last year, Avalanche Studios co-founder Christofer Sundberg revealed in a series of posts on X that Just Cause 5 is unlikely to see the light of day, primarily due to the fact many of the original team are no longer at Avalanche. Avalanche Studios announced in September 2025 that it was closing its Liverpool studio as a result of a restructuring process that would see its global workforce reduced across its various studios.
