Team Asobi‘s Nicolas Doucet has revealed in a new interview on YouTube that the upcoming Astro Bot on PS5 features a completely overhauled game engine compared to Astro’s Playroom, with the main adventure lasting players in the region of 12-15 hours.
Doucet explained that it wasn’t necessary to have the game last 20-30 hours, and instead wanted a title where the tempo was constant for the whole experience. As such, Team Asobi would rather avoid any repetition by reducing the length of the game.
Elsewhere, he was quizzed about the inclusion of a PlayStation-themed planet in Astro Bot, but didn’t go into any details in order to ‘avoid overhyping things.’

Team Asobi previously revealed that Astro Bot PS5 will feature over 150 PlayStation character cameos, although Doucet admitted in a separate interview that the team doesn’t feel that it would have been an issue if Astro Bot didn’t have a PlayStaton theme.
Astro Bot on PS5 is a full-fledged outing for the much-loved character, weighing in at roughy four times the size of Astro’s Playroom, which was a pack-in title that was mainly used to demonstrate the DualSense controller’s unique features.
Sony has announced that Astro Bot will launch for PS5 on September 6, 2024.
