Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was more of a success than anyone could have predicted. In fact you wouldn’t have been necessarily wrong if you identified Edgerunners as the best thing to come out of CD Projekt RED’s Cyberpunk series when it launched, especially compared to the state the game was in at the time.
Edgerunners deserves a lot of credit for getting a wider crowd interested in betting on Cyberpunk 2077. In fact the only criticism fans really have of Edgerunners is that there wasn’t more of it, as it was designed to be a one-season show.
But there will be more animated Cyberpunk, CD Projekt RED has revealed in its latest quarterly earnings call on Tuesday.
“I’m also very happy to announce that we’re working on another animation project set in the Cyberpunk universe, which will be released on Netflix,” said chief financial officer at CDPR Piotr Nielubowicz.
The details around this new project are still murky. It’s likely not another Edgerunners project, though that doesn’t mean it won’t be another collaboration with the team behind Edgerunners, Studio Trigger.
Surely fans of Edgerunners would love to see Studio Trigger return to the world of Cyberpunk, even if it was with a completely new story. Whatever this project ends up being it’ll be interesting to see.
