E3 is just around the corner and gamers are eagerly awaiting announcements for the exciting, new titles coming in the future. One such game has already been announced: the hotly anticipated sequel to PSU’s best fighting game of 2013, Injustice: God’s Among Us. Injustice 2 is scheduled to release sometime in 2017 from the DC Comics-owning Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and Mortal Kombat developer, NetherRealm studios.
Being the huge comic book fans we are, the staff at PSU decided to make a list of characters we would like to see in the sequel that didn’t make the cut the first time around. With the announcement trailer we can determine that Batman, Superman, Aquaman, The Flash, and newcomer Supergirl will be featured in the sequel, while Gorilla Grodd and Atrocitus have also been confirmed as playable characters. Not only that, but a hologram of Captain Cold’s gun can be seen at the start of the reveal trailer leaving many to believe he will make an appearance. So what other characters would we like to see? Read on.

Darkseid
Darkseid is the ruler of Apokolips and an overall badass. His power is unmatched even by Superman himself. His ultimate goal is to acquire the Anti-Life equation, which will allow him to remove free will from the universe and rule it in his own image. Besides his unmatched physical strength, Darkseid’s Omega Beams is easily the most powerful attack in the entirety of the DC Universe, instantly evaporating anyone it touches. Only two people have ever survived the attack: Superman and Doomsday. With all the power he possess and his army of parademons, Darkseid can easily be the main antagonist of Injustice 2.
Clayface
Basil Karlo aka Clayface is easily one of the most underrated characters in comic books. Able to shape his body into anyone he has ever come in contact with, Clayface is a master of disguise but can also pack a hefty punch. In his native form Clayface is a hulking giant with incredible strength. He absorbs almost any attack thrown his way, and is able to split himself apart into multiple pieces and put himself back together on command. Clayface would be a perfect, and radically different, addition to Injustice 2 as a Shang Tsung-type opponent.
King Shark
King Shark has become a popular character as of late. Originally depicted as a Great White Shark with humanoid features, the new 52 chose to depict him as a Hammerhead shark. King Shark is able to withstand most attacks and his endurance is unmatched. Able to fight on land and in water he was captured and assigned to the Suicide Squid in the New 52. Using him as the powerhouse tank Amanda Waller later came to find out that King Shark is one of the smartest creatures on the planet and had only been pretending to be a mindless killing machine. King Shark has recently appeared in the hit TV show version of The Flash, where he was voiced by Solid Snake himself, David Hayter.
Batman Beyond
Created by Bruce Timm and Paul Dini, the masterminds who also gave us Harley Quinn. Batman Beyond told the story of Terry McGinnis, who stumbles upon the Batcave while working for the now-retired Bruce Wayne. Wayne recruits him to fight the new dangers facing the Gotham City of the near-future. Although Batman Beyond has been around for twelve years, DC Comics has only recently declared him as a cannon character in the DC Universe. Loved by many fans, DC Comics hasn’t given the character the attention he deserves and Injustice 2 may be the perfect time to do it. How they fit him in on the same timeline is the only potential problem, but y’know… time travel or something. Just like our next pick.
Booster Gold
Booster Gold is one character that DC Comic fans just can’t get enough of. A self-proclaimed hero from the future, Booster Gold used time-traveling technology, and knowledge of history, to stage high-publicity heroics. This led to a lot of problems in the future and his fame eventually led to his sister’s death. Booster Gold then becomes a hero of justice, true justice trying to undo the things he has done. He was a key player in taking down Brother Eye during Infinite Crisis, essentially saving the universe. He’s both self-centered and egotistical but that’s what makes him so lovable—that and his partner, Skeets.
Black Canary
It’s hard to say whether Black Canary will appear in Injustice 2 considering what happened to her in the Injustice comic book leading up to the game. Dinah Drake or Laurel Lance as some may know her is a superheroine with expert martial arts training and an ultrasonic scream known as the Canary Cry. In Injustice we discover that her husband and longtime partner Oliver Queen aka Green Arrow was killed by Superman. In the Injustice comic we get to see his death, and what happens to Black Canary following her husband’s demise, which I won’t spoil here, but it’s a moment that shouldn’t be missed. It’s a safe bet that Black Canary will be a perfect fit in this universe.
Rorschach
The Watchmen characters have recently been brought into the extended DC Comics Universe so it’s up to DC if they should choose to give us an epic battle between Superman and Dr. Manhattan. But for us and me personally; Rorschach is the perfect character to clash in the Injustice universe. His brutal tactics and an unshakable will to see justice dished out will make for an interesting encounter with the Dark Knight himself. It’d also be a little more fitting than shoving Sub Zero or Jason Voorhees in there.
There are plenty of heroes and villains for NetherRealm and WB Games to showcase in this hotly anticipated sequel. Let us know who you would like to see in the comments below.
