New Final Fantasy XV demo in development, airship combat could be free DLC

Square Enix’s Hajime Tabata has confirmed that his team is working on a new demo for its hotly anticipated JRPG, Final Fantasy XV.

Speaking during an interview with VGTime, a Chinese gaming site, Tabata-san, who serves as game director on the upcoming title, also revealed that there’s a possibility airship and underwater combat may be coming to Final Fantasy XV as free DLC.

Sadly, no details were given regarding the new demo, although we’ll be sure to keep you posted. FFXV previously received a playable demo packaged with the high-definition release of Final Fantasy Type-0 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One earlier this year, known as Episode Duscae. Recently, it was confirmed that development of the game had reached the beta phase, with new info scheduled to arrive during an event in March 2016. Final Fantasy XV is pencilled in for release at some point in 2016, and will receive a simultaneous global launch. Final Fantasy XV was announced at E3 2013 during Sony’s press conference, although prior to that the game was known as the PS3-exclusive JRPG , Final Fantasy Versus XIII. Development on FFXV didn’t actually start until around three years ago, at which point Versus XIII was only 25 percent complete—despite the fact it was announced at E3 2006. Much of the game has been changed in the transition from Versus to FFXV, although some of the original elements remain in place.

Square Enix has said that it wants to attract new players with Final Fantasy XV, and revealed that the game’s character design is more grounded in reality compared to its previous incarnation. Check out the latest Final Fantasy XV trailer, known as Dawn 2.0, for the latest glimpse at PS4 and Xbox One’s upcoming JRPG.
