1666: Amsterdam in-game footage leaked, looks a lot like Assassin’s Creed

The creator behind Assassin’s Creed has shared the first in-game footage of 1666: Amsterdam after regaining the rights to the mystery title from Ubisoft.

Patrice Desilets showcased the footage of the title, which was in development for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 a few years back, during his panel at the Croatia’s Reboot Develop Conference.

The footage was captured by Brandon Sheffield, who provided some background details on the project.

The game would have been for the PS3 and Xbox 360, and the footage comes from a build of that era, two years ago. It would have become next (now current)-gen if the studio had not closed,” wrote Sheffield.

The game’s theme is ‘be worse than the devil,’ which is why the protagonist can control animals traditionally associated with black magic. This footage shows a real player running through the game in-engine.”

1666 was in development at THQ Montreal prior to the studio’s closure, and was shelved almost immediately after being snapped up by Ubisoft. Desilets was unceremoniously fired from the company just a few months later.

As a result, the game developer filed a lawsuit against Ubisoft and fought for the rights to his project. The two finally buried the hatchet earlier this month and Desilets was returned the rights to his IP, although right now he’s currently busy working on Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey.
