(UPDATE) Confirmed: Co-op Resident Evil 5 demo coming to PSN

UPDATE 2:

Speaking with Shacknews.com, Capcom confirmed that the Resident Evil 5 demo will be coming to the PSN in both North America and Europe, although no specific date was given.

According to Capcom, the demo will arrive "soon" after the Japanese demo, and the North American and European version of the game is still on track for March 13th, despite the bump on the Japanese release date.

UPDATE:

IGN has obtained a translation of the Famitsu article, which claims that the demo will only be available to Xbox LIVE Gold Members. No mention of a PSN release was given, and so far, the demo appears to be a Japan-only deal. In addition, the magazine also reports that the game’s Japanese release date has been pushed forward to March 5.

ORIGINAL ARTICLE:

According to the latest issue of Famitsu, Capcom will be releasing a Resident Evil 5 demo on December 5 that will support co-op.

Earlier this month we reported that Capcom’s Jun Takeuchi said that the publisher will be making an announcement in regards to a playable demo of Resident Evil 5 “relatively soon.” So, perhaps this is first sign of the upcoming official announcement.

Right now though, it’s currently unknown if the demo will be made available for both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 or restricted to a specific platform, or whether it will be released outside of Japan or not.

We’ve contacted Capcom for an official comment, so stay tuned for further updates.

The game hits stores on March 13, 2009.
