PS4 and Xbox One combined sales hit 55 million, says Capcom

Speaking during its FY2015 Financial Results Question and Answer Summary this week, Capcom said that combined sales of PlayStation 4 and Xbox One have reached 55 million units worldwide.

The figure matches that of Electronic Arts’ own internal estimate from earlier this year.

In addition, Capcom said that combined sales of current-generation consoles will reach 100 million worldwide by 2020. It’s not, however, clear what systems are included in this, as we have Nintendo’s NX to consider, plus any possible upgrades to Sony and Microsoft’s own consoles.

"Our perception of the home video game market is that it will continue to be active at the global level, as we believe the install base of major home video game consoles will break the 100 million unit mark in 2020," said Capcom.

"The console purchases are up through the end of calendar year ’15, our estimate is 55 million units out there which has exceeded virtually everyone’s forecast for the year and now almost 50% higher than previous console cycle so, all of that is very-very positive.”

Rumors have been flooding in the past few months regarding a possible PS4 update, known as the PS4K or ‘Neo.’ According to initial reports, the device will include an improved GPU, CPU and RAM, and will be released in March 2017.

Recently however, it was suggested that the PS4K will be announced at the Tokyo Game Show in September, and will hit shelves before October.
