Crytek wants to push PS VR visual capabilities with Robinson: The Journey

Crytek’s Niklas Walenski has revealed that the developer is looking to push the graphical capabilities of PlayStation VR with its upcoming title, Robinson: The Journey.

Speaking during an interview with GamingBolt, Walenski also said he feels Sony’s upcoming virtual reality headset will have the advantage in terms of accessibility, as you only need a PlayStation 4 to get started.

As Crytek we are known for the graphics quality we can achieve with CryEngine, and like on every platform we are doing our best to push the graphics on PSVR to its limits. We want to set a benchmark on this new platform,” he said.

PSVR definitely has an advantage when it comes to accessibility, since people will only need to buy a PlayStation 4 to use the headset. However, it is also the last of the major three headsets to be released this year, so the Rift and the Vive will already have a user base.  In the end the software available on each platform will determine its success, and it is hard to judge that right now.”

PlayStation VR is scheduled for release in October 2016, priced at $399/£349. Sony has confirmed that over 200 developers are working on titles for the device, and it hopes to have around 50 games out for PS VR by the end of the year.

PS VR will be compatible with a number of high-profile titles, including Ace Combat 7, Dreams, Gran Turismo Sport and Tekken 7. Pleasingly, Sony has said that pre-orders for the headset are tracking ahead of expectations.
