Resident Evil Zero HD Remaster fails to scare up one 1 million sales

Capcom has announced that Resident Evil Zero HD Remaster has performed favourably, with survival horror prequel drumming up approximately 800,000 units sold as of March 31, 2016.

This falls short of the one million plus sales for the Resident Evil HD Remaster released in January 2015.

Released in January for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PC, Xbox One and Xbox 360, Resident Evil Zero HD is a spruced up version of the original GameCube title from 2002, and features a new Wesker Mode in addition to various visual enhancements.

The game takes place 24 hours before the events of Resident Evil, and sees rookie S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team member, Rebecca Chambers, teaming up with escaped convict Billy Coen as the pair uncover the origins of the T-Virus outbreak in Raccoon Forest.

Capcom has a number of Resident Evil projects in the works, including high-definition ports of Resident Evil 4 and 5 for PS4, plus the squad-based shooter, Umbrella Corps. In addition, it’s also working on a full-fledged remake of 1998’s seminal Resident Evil 2.

Last week, it emerged the Japanese publisher has two unannounced major titles in the works, as well as a ‘full-scale assult’ planned for Resident Evil. This has lead many to speculate that the company is working on the long-rumored Resident Evil 7.

Resident Evil celebrated its 20th anniversary on March 22, having first launched in Japan for the PlayStation back in 1996.
