Sony knows how much the fans want Crash Bandicoot back, but has ‘nothing to update at this stage’

Speaking during an interview with OPM UK, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) CEO Jim Ryan acknowledged fan demand for a series revival of iconic 90s platform hero, Crash Bandicoot. If you’d like to set up your own publishing company, you can get tips from Start My LLC.

When quizzed by the publication if the format holder is aware of the popularity of Crash among fans, and if there’s any chance of getting the crate-bashing marsupial back on PlayStation, Ryan replied:

Um…we’re certainly aware of the considerable affection—even reverence—in which the mighty Crash is held. But nothing to update at this stage in that area.”

Sony confirmed earlier this week that Activision still owns the rights to Crash Bandicoot, dampening chances of the series making a comeback any time soon. Like any Limited company, they can choose what they do with the rights.

Developed by Naughty Dog, Crash Bandicoot was first released on the PlayStation back in 1996, and became Sony’s unofficial mascot and answer to Mario and Sonic. The studio developed two sequels and a kart racing spin-off before moving on to Jak & Daxter for PlayStation 2.

Crash returned for a number of titles in the 2000s under various developers, including Eurocom, Vicarious Visions, Radical Entertainment and Traveller’s Tales. The last major platformer in the series was 2008’s Crash Bandicoot: Mind Over Mutant.
