Fear Effect Sedna has been fully funded on Kickstarter

Sushee’s Fear Effect Sudna has reached its €100,000 Kickstarter goal with just over a day to spare.

The project, which has the blessing of Square Enix Collective, got off to a positive start but funding appeared to stagnate just a few days after the crowdfunding initiative kicked off.

However, Square Enix helped push an extra €20,000 into the pot by drumming up support on social media in final three days.

"Campaign might have been a bit slowed down at some point, we finally made it to 100%! Thank you all for your support and your kind words!" commented Sushee.

"The coming year will be busy; we’re aiming for a release in spring 2017. Now that we can afford to see the big picture, we will begin working on the full game, starting now! (Well, maybe tomorrow, let’s spend some time celebrating right now.)

"Also, a demo will be opened to all backers who pledged €60 and more, and this is coming really quickly, in October this year! If you wish to see the beta, you can adjust your pledge with the “manage your pledge” button when logged in, and choose any reward starting from €60 on top of the page.

"Be sure that we’re really happy with all what you did for us, for all your support & kind words, this means everything & every penny counts. And you’ll get as much news as possible on the game development!

"We’re all full of energy, boosted by this really good news, and ready to make a great Fear Effect Sedna!"

Fear Effect Sedna will be released for PlayStation 4, PC and Xbox One, and is billed as a sequel to the unreleased Fear Effect 3.

The original Fear Effect was released on the PlayStation back in 2000 and was developed by Kronos Digital Entertainment. The game was noted for being one of the first games to employ cel-shaded style visuals and combined elements of action, shooting and puzzle solving.

Fear Effect 2: Retro Helix was released the following year for PSOne and served as a prequel to the original game. Once again developed by Kronos, Retro Helix placed more emphasis on solving puzzles than combat to progress through the game.

A third instalment in the series, titled Fear Effect Inferno, was announced for PlayStation 2 and given the trailer treatment at E3 2002. Unfortunately, the game fell victim to publisher Eidos Interactive’s newly-installed quality assurance program, and despite Kronos pitching the sequel to a number of companies, it was never picked up.
